LabÉAU
The most advanced aquaponics laboratory in Quebec
LabÉAU is the private research, innovation and demonstration platform for ÉAU. It is the technological heart that fuels your progress and scientific credibility.
Quebec's first private aquaponics laboratory
Located in Montreal, the laboratory was built in 2020 and is adjacent to ÉAU's offices. It consists of a 15 m³ decoupled aquaponics system and a prototype mineralization system.
Our R&D infrastructure includes:
-
3 tanks of approximately 2 m³ each
-
3 floating raft racks Alarm and monitoring system
-
Laboratory analysis equipment

The mandate of LabÉAU

-
Testing, validating and optimizing water aquaponics technologies
-
Develop the operating protocols
-
Training future aquaponics operators
-
To serve as an industrial testing platform for public/private partners
Our strategic research areas

Reducing the environmental footprint
Aimed at combating climate change and eliminating CO2 production sources from aquaponic farms

Product diversification (fish, plants, crustaceans)
Enabling the diversification of food products that can be produced in aquaponic farms

Process optimization (mineralization, energy, AI)
Its targets are the reduction of operational costs, inputs and outputs of the aquaponic farms we are developing.
Our ongoing R&D projects

Mathematical modeling of decoupled systems

Inclusion of insects in the diet

Light spectra for aromatic plants

Domestication of yellow perch and walleye in RAS

Mineralization of insect frass

Why is this important?
LabÉAU is your scientific, technological and regulatory proof to develop ÉAU farms and support innovation in Quebec.
